History
The district of Malesia e Madhe is one of the 36 districts of Albania. The district is part of Shkodra Region. The district of Malesi e Madhe has 37,000 inhabitants (2004), an area of 897 km and Koplik as center.
Mal�sia e Madhe is the province of the Albanian territories, which lies to the east of Podgorica and the other side of the Shkodra Lake to Kosovo.
Mal�sia e Madhe is divided into three areas: mountainous areas (bjeshk�t), mountainous areas and field areas. The mountainous areas (bjeshk�t) are: Triepshi, Korita e Hotit, Kelmendi and some areas of Shkrel. The mountainous areas are: Koja, Fudnat, a part of Gruda, the great part of Hoti, a part of Kastrati and Shkrel. The fields are: Koplik, Gruemira, Buz-Uji, a part of Kastrati and Hot, as well as Gruda, which has the largest area: Cem Field, Black Andean, Vllana Field, Vranas Field, Tuzi, Milesha Field and Dinosausa Field.
This geographic position creates an amazing ensemble with regard to the field of Tourism that by its nature can be unique in our country and in the region. Mal�sia e Madhe gives the opportunity for the 12 months of the year to develop all kinds of tourism starting with:
- Aquatic Tourism: a special place is the Shkodra Lake with a length of about 30 km from Vraka-Gril (Gruemir� Commune) to Hani Hotit (Commune Kastrat) as well as the Cem River with a length of about 31 km crosses the Commune of Kelmend.
- Green and White Tourism: which is the most attractive tourism where the most popular tourist spots are Razma, Boga, Reci Area in Shkrel Commune, Lepusha, Vermoshi, Selca etc. in Kelmend Commune.
- Historical and Cultural Tourism: This tourism occupies a major place in the entire tourist area of Mal�sia e Madhe Prefecture for its history and culture inherited from generation to generation.
- Sports tourism: the position itself and the great natural resources that the whole Mal�sia e Madhe Prefecture has to offer gives great opportunities for the development of many sports such as water sports (swimming, water ball games, boat trips, fish hunting and of various birds) in Lake of Shkodra, rowing in the Cem River, hiking.
- Geo-archaeological Tourism: Domestic and foreign visitors can explore various caves throughout Mal�sia e Madhe which also provide vital data of thousands of years old population. The most popular caves are in Kelmend, Shkrel, Gruemir� Kastrat.
